OVERVIEW

Library Connections is an organizational structure designed to promote reading choices, encourage familiarization with the library and celebrate learning connections for all within the school community. This organizational structure promotes a collaborative framework and encourages shared decision-making in a school related to literature titles, choices and subject connections.

PROCESS

Library Connections offers the opportunity for teachers to reflect and consider literature titles that represent a subject, or concept in some significant way and that they wish every student to read. These titles would assist students in making connections across the subjects.

The Library Connections process provides the opportunity for teachers to come together in a collaborative forum to share and express their title choices and rationales.

So how is this accomplished? First by grade and/or program, teachers collaborate and consider literature titles for all subjects within their programs. Next, teachers collaborate by divisions to consider and draft their lists. Then decisive collaboration results in finalizing the recommended list of literature titles, representing all grades, programs, divisions and subjects according to the shared-decisions.

Library Connections is a specific means which challenges teachers, students and parents to discuss, implement and celebrate what is most important in language education. It encourages and promotes a renewed commitment to literature and its importance within education.
