EVALUATION AND BENEFITS

The information gathered from Library Connections can be very informative and beneficial to teachers, students, teaching assistants, parents and administrators within the school community. Library Connections can give direction to program planning, professional development and to celebrating as a community of learners. It can supplement curriculum and assist in literature selections for library inventory and curriculum resources.

Special support initiatives within the school such as Early Literacy, Special Education, Aboriginal Education and English as a Second Language can incorporate some of their reading material from the “library connection books”. This involves the students they serve in a special way and makes them all feel “connected”. This common collection of literature becomes a valuable resource for all. It provides a sense of belonging.

Library Connections is a specific means which challenges teachers, students and parents to discuss, implement and celebrate what is most important in language education. It encourages and promotes a renewed commitment to literature and its importance within education.
