Yamanota

This vessel was owned by Lago Shipping Co. of Aruba. She was one of the small 'mosquito' vessels operating from Aruba to Lake Maracaibo for the Lago Oil Co., which was a subsidiary of Standard Oil. After the fiasco of the ANDINO we were towed back to Maracaibo and anchored off the town while the company decided what to do with her. A good many of us were paid off on the 25 th Feb. 1942 , and a skeleton crew remained. I was directed to the Yamanota and joined her on 9 Mar. 1942.  We sailed in a group, without escort, hugging the western coastline of Venezuela, along the Gulf, which left only about 25 mls. of open water to reach Aruba. This was thought to be the safest strategy.
I signed off the vessel on 8 th May, being allowed to leave the company.
