Gulf of Venezuela and Related Coastline
(Local navigation tits tips)
'Tits a Maria' are two small mountains on the eastern
end of the peninsular that reaches to the Dragon's Mouth--entrance to the
Gulf of Paria. We had to go to Port of Spain to pick up a pilot who guided
up the San Juan river to Caripito. The river was so narrow that branches
stretched almost across, and we could hear the sound of monkeys and
parrots. As navigator I used Tits a Maria for terrestial navigation as
we approached the Dragon's Mouth, and also in the Gulf of Paria,
making our way to the river and back--we had to return to Port of Spain
to drop the pilot off again.
