Sports Events in Leonidio

There are a number of sports that Leonidiotes are involved in. Soccer would be the top, yet Beach Volleyball would have to be the second most popular sport. Leonidio boasts one of the top teams in both of these sports and on a good day you can catch a practice.

Unfortunately I was unable to get a picture of the current main soccer team of Leonidio. While I was in Leonidio July 2000, the team had just left for northern Greece for exhibition games and practice, and the team photos were not released at that time. I also didn't know about their early morning practice times before they left. Thus a few lost photo opportunities.

During the Spring and Summer of 2000 Leonidio was able to grow grass in their main open soccer stadium. Considering how dry and hot Leonidio can get during these months, this was quite an accomplishment. Behind the main stadium you can see the building of a new indoor stadium.
