Legion of Super-Heroes Logo RARE ELEMENTS OF THE 30TH CENTURY
The Legion has encountered a number of rare elements in the 30th century, many of which have been incorporated into their devices:
Arctite: Saturn's rarest mineral generates a numbing super-cold, and is used in the inner edge of this planet's currency, called "ring-money" (AD 350).
Duralim: A metal which has a greater attraction for lightning than any other element (AD 312).
Durlamite: A dense mineral used in the construction of prison walls. It is the chief mining export from Durla (AD 360).
Element No. 152: Created by Mon-El in the guise of Marvel Lad, when he fused Gold (79), Silver (47), and Iron (26) together in 2963 (AD 305). Later used by Brainiac 5 in the development of the Legion Flight-Ring. Element-152
Energite: The universe's most valuable mineral, found on Venus, can cure disease with its radiation (AD 303).
Fluvium: A rare element found in distant galaxies and used in Mon-El's anti-lead poisoning serum (AD 305). Fluvium
Inertron: Discovered in 2965, this pink colored metal is the densest substance in the universe and is often used by the LSH (AD 336). Alloyed with Manganium, Inertron is used to insulate the thymo-plastic walls of the Legion HQ (AD 367). Inertron
Kryptonite: Fragments of the planet Krypton can still be found in the 30th century, either imbedded in the earth or floating through space as an asteroid. Kryptonite affects only super-powered Kryptonians. Kryptonite is not invulnerable and can be melted by heat-vision, provided the subject is far enough away not to be seriously weakened. Kryptonite radiation can be blocked by lead. There are several types of Kryptonite, distinguised by color, in this highly unstable element:
Green-K is the most common variety of the substance. In the presence of this green glowing rock, super-powered Kryptonians become weakened and feel pain. Prolonged exposure will result in fatal Kryptonite poisoning, turning the subject green. Ironically, Green Kryptonite radiation has been discovered to help cure certain space-ills, and in (AD 313) powdered form it is a vital ingredient in Mon-El's Anti-Lead Serum (AD 305). Green Kryptonite
Red-K was created after a flock of Kryptonite passed through a crimmson cosmic cloud, turning it red. Red-K causes a variety of strange effects to occur in the exposed Kryptonian. For instance, it may cause them to shrink, grow large or split into two beings. One particular piece can only affect a particular individual once. The effect of that piece may be catalogued, as if will produce the same exact effect in another Kryptonian. The effects of Red-K usually only last 48 hours. Red Kryptonite
Gold-K will rob the exposed Kryptonian of their super-powers forever. Gold Kryptonite
White-K only destroys plant-life (SM 156). White Kryptonite
Blue-K will only affect imperfect, unliving bizzaro-duplicates of Kryptonians in much the same way as Green-K affects Kryptonians. Blue Kryptonite
Lurium: A metal which can only be melted by Zeta-Rays, and is used to make telepath-blocking Mind-Helmets (AD 303).
Neutronium: The heaviest element in the universe (AD 326).
Radumite: A rare mineral usually transported in underground transit-tunnels by autom-trains (AD 338).
Rejuvium: This rejuvenating mineral was discovered by prospector Thomas Keene in 2965, and has since been duplicated and used in youth-restoring serums (AD 335). Rejuvium
Sigellian: A blue substance that effects Earth-stock humans like Kryptonite effects Kryptonians. Comments: It was named after its discoverer, Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel (AD 267).
Spectrium: A rare rainbow-colored metal that telepaths can use to duplicate super-powers. Saturn Girl once did this in an attempt to sacrifice herself to defeat Zaryan the Conqueror (AD 304). Spectrium
Ultrasite: A rare element that glows when bombarded with electricity (AD 320).
Universium: On of the rarest, hardest metals in the universe (AD 316).
Zeta-Rays: Also known as "z-rays", this type of radiation is illegal due to its great destructive ability and is the only thing capable of melting the metal lurium. Criminals frequently employ z-rays for the making of zeta-bombs (AD 303, AD 351).
Zuunium: This extremely rare, pink glowing element, found in minute quantities on Zoon, was used by Dr. Mar Londo to create a ray to give his son (Timber Wolf) partial super-powers (AD 327). Zuunium
