I have always been drawn to things in the natural world as painting subjects. In my recent work I'm still using organic forms, but they are becoming more abstracted and mixed with personal symbols and imagery. Along with landscapes and florals, I'm beginning to explore themes of memory, dreams and the experiences we carry with us in our bodies. That which is sometimes hard to fully express in words, seems somehow mirrored perfectly in nature: the cycles of life, death and rebirth; joy and sorrow; self-expression and concealment. My work usually starts with something I have made an emotional connection with in the outer world and through the journey of painting is transformed into a more interior landscape.

Laurie Ladmore lives in Victoria, BC. She attended the Victoria College of Art from 1994 to 1996. She works in acrylic, oil and watercolour.
