Lonsdale
Quay
10"x10"
The
Seabus Terminal. I just love the big Q. It's like the NyQuil Q
but much more energizing.

Tomahawk
Restaurant
10"x8"
This
is like many of the restaurants we used to stop at on road trips
in the 1970s. It is like stepping back in time when you go there.
I hope they never change it.

Parkgate
Library
10"x10"
At
dusk with the lights on. It's open 'til 9 pm.

Lion's
Gate West
10"x8"
Another
view of Lion's Gate, looking west. This is the path the cruise
ships take out to Alaska.

The
Lions in Summer
10" x 24"
This
is a tall vertical view of the Lions over Capilano Lake in the
summertime.

The
Lions in Winter

Same
scene in winter.

The Lions II
10"x10"
I
always wondered how the Lions got their name. Honestly, they don't
look much like lions. They look more ... female, somehow (apparently
they are also known as "The Twin Sisters").

Edgemont Village

Cute,
eclectic Edgemont Village is a city of sidewalks, indeed.

Deep Cove II

One
of North Vancouver's most idyllic spots.

Deep Cove Marina II
10"x10"
If
you live in Deep Cove, it is almost a requirement to own a boat.

Canoe and Kayak Center
10"x10"
This
is where to rent canoes and kayaks in Deep Cove. They call it
a "paddler's paradise".

Seabus
10"x8"
This
is another daily commute for many: the rainclouds over the city
punctuate the return to work.

Next Five Exits
10"x8"
Ironworker's
Memorial Bridge, AKA Second Narrows. All roads lead to North Van.

Lion's Gate Bridge
10"x10"
The
gateway to the North Shore and a daily commute - and sometimes
frustration - for many.

Grouse Mountain Gondola
10"x8"
I
have never failed to get dizzy on this ride. That is why it
is probably painted a little more swirly than usual.

Brockton Point II
9 "x12"
The
iconic Brockton Point lighthouse on the edge of Stanley Park.
It's like a little exclamation mark on the seawall.

Inukshuk
8"x10"
As
an Inuit symbol, these stone constructs have been used for navigation,
memorialization of loved ones, and markers for good hunting or
fishing grounds. This iconic English Bay statue will forever be
associated with Vancouver's 2010 Olympics as it was portrayed
on the crayon-bright logo.
The
VANOC marketing copy said, "Over time, the inukshuk has become
a symbol of hope and friendship, an eternal expression of the
hospitality of a nation that warmly welcomes the people of the
world with open arms every day."
On
a summer's day, this particular West End landmark watches over
volleyball players and leisurely strollers and carefree suntanners.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

The
Capilano Suspension Bridge is like walking through the forest
on stilts.

town to some.

Sinclair Center
10"x10"
Sinclair
Center on Hastings and Howe in Vancouver is a cool little shopping
place in a heritage building in downtown Vancouver.

Burrard Sunset
10"x10"
There
are days when Vancouver is not all green and blue or gray: some
days, like late summer, it can be perfectly golden.

Granville Island
12"x12"
This
is a smaller version of my larger Granville
Island II painting. It's all about the contrast of downtown
regularity against the neon-bright GI community separated by the
lovely art deco Burrard Street bridge.

Vancouver Core
II
12"x12"
This
is a version of my larger Vancouver
Core painting. The view is of the core of downtown from
the seabus, maybe seen from behind, when leaving and heading
home on a Friday.
*This
piece was stolen October 31, 2010 from the Beaumont Gallery.

Coal Harbour Panorama
12"x9"
The
view of Coal Harbour and North Vancouver from the top of the Pan
Pacific has so many Vancouver icons in one place: the Lions, the
sulfur piles, the floating gas stations, Lion's Gate bridge, and
Stanley Park.
