travellers have passed this way...

If you want to see the pictures at full size, just click on them. Eventually I'll add the Visio files for those who use it - or I may export them in AutoCAD format.

Floor plan

Here's the design for the bow-top. Layout is identical to the original, just some dimensions adjusted slightly. I took a leaf from Chris' book and based this design on a 6-ft x 12-ft lawn trailer. Obviously it will depend to a certain extent what I can actually buy.

One of the neat things I found you can do in Visio is make objects variably transparent. This is highly useful for showing stuff which is under/behind/obscured by other stuff. In this case, I wanted particularly to show the framing, storage, water tank and battery compartments under the bed.

Sectional views

Here's the centerline sectional views, looking to left:

... and to the right:

And finally, a sectional view looking forward, toward the bed. As I'm sure folks will have noted by now, we are big believers in drawers...

This view isn't really finished yet; I need to flesh out the details for the forward end, including particularly how it will be supported. Right now I'm thinking angle-iron brackets and 2x2s dropped into place - inelegant but quick and effective.

As far as the roof goes, having talked with my Dad, I will probably emulate Dunstan's design and use five or seven 1 x whatever for the longintudinal supports, with shock-corded poles over. Must email Rachel and find out what size lumber is used for those. The tinker's wagon looks like it uses three 14-foot long 2x4s, which while strong is perhaps just a bit of overkill.

Hopefully, sometime next week I will be able to model this in Rhino3D and put up a render or two...
