Larry and Dee Tableware Raku Horsehair Pitfired Woodfired Gardens Artwork Shows Email Us

Raku is derived from an ancient Japanese method of firing. The pots are fired very quickly in a small kiln.
When the glaze has melted, they are quickly removed, Red Hot with a pair of tongs.
They are placed in a bed of leaves, hay, newspaper or other combustible material and allowed to cool.
The unusual colors, patterns and metallics on the finish come from the interplay between the smokey atmosphere and rapid cooling.
The word "Raku" means enjoyment, pleasure or happiness.
Hopefully the finished work reflects these qualities of unpredictability and spontanity.
Raku is for Decorative Use Only.
