Known Bugs/Issues in LAMPWordsX =============================== While every effort has been made to make LAMPWords bug-free, sometimes problems do occur. Known problems are listed below. Also listed are some odd behaviours that might be considered bugs. While development is no longer going on, if you find anything not listed here please report it so it can be noted on the web site. - INPUT CHARACTERS: If input, nonsensical characters like punctuation will be displayed. However when searching the program will filter out all nonsense characters to attempt to provide a meaningful result. - SLOW * SEARCHING: Searches with the * wildcard character will be quite slow - they may take several minutes! Anagram searches with * are always slow. Pattern searches with * at the end or in the middle will be quick, while if the * is at the start it will be slow. Tip: Instead of e.g. *INGS do multiple searches: ?INGS, ??INGS, ???INGS, etc. - SEARCHING ON OLDER DEVICES: On devices running Palm OS 3.0 or earlier, no progress dialog will be displayed during a search. For long searches, LAMPWords will appear to be doing nothing after pressing the Search button. To provide some indication of progress, the Search button will disappear until the search is complete. All Palm buttons, controls, etc. WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE allowing you to shut off your Palm, switch tasks, scroll the last search results list, etc. All LAMPWords buttons (except Search) will also be available. However, it is recommended you do not try to use LAMPWords functions while waiting for a search. The program's behaviour is undefined if you try this. (Although it seems to be reasonably stable, but this is not guaranteed.) Note that switching to other applications or turning off your Palm should work fine during a search. - KEYBOARD: The program cannot currently translate input from the keyboard as it does with Graffiti(r). Thus lower case letters will not be capitalized and the aliases for wild cards will be displayed as input. However, searches with lower case letters will work, and the program will recognize all shortcuts for wild cards (e.g. space or period for a ? characters). This applies to both the on-screen keyboard as well as devices with physical keyboards. - PALM OS 5.0 DEVICES: On brand new devices running Palm OS 5.0, LAMPWords will not translate Graffiti(r)/Graffiti 2(r) strokes so the program will behave as if you are always using the keyboard (see previous item). Again, this is just a display problem; the characters will be recognized properly when the search begins. - INTERNATIONALIZATION: The vowels, consonants, and point-values are hardcoded and cannot be changed for internationalization purposes. - CARD SUPPORT: The program itself must be installed on the handheld's main memory. The dictionary can be installed on a card. If your handheld supports multiple cards, the card with the dictionary must be in the first card slot.
