Have you purchased an Oilily item to find out that it is fake?

Is the Oilily item you're bidding on Authentic?  Or is it just a cheap copy?

HOW TO SPOT FAKE OILILY

Hang Tags

Oilily changes their Hang Tags every couple of years for marketing reasons as well as to deter others from counterfeiting their designs.

Prior to year 2003 Hang Tags - There were very few, if none, Counterfeit Oilily items.

Year 2003 - 2005 labels (the vertical ones with the Red Label and pink OILILY logo), the inside of the label must have 6 pictures on the left facing page.  If there are no pictures inside the label, your New With Tags item is a KNOCKOFF!  If there is a blank White space where the pictures should be, you have purchased a Fake Oilily item.

Year 2006 labels are 2-tone Green diamond shape.  They MUST be attached to the Oilily garment with a green silk ribbon.  Oilily has looped the silk ribbon around the garment label (fabric label on the Oilily clothing), and has affixed it to the paper label with a plastic tag that looks very much like an old-fashion wax seal.  The Oilily Diamond Shape Tag MUST be attached to the garment with the Green Silk ribbon for it to be Authentic.  If the diamond shaped tag is affixed to the Oilily garment in any other way, i.e. plastic tag, your Oilily item is fake.

Country of Manufacturer

Clothing

Oilily manufacturers very few items in China.  Dresses, pants and shirts are NOT normally manufactured in China.  Oilily prefers manufacturing these items in countries such as Turkey, Romania, India, Morocco, to a name a few.  Oilily does however, occasionally manufacture Coats and Jackets in China - specifically due to the intricate embroidery nature of the item.  For instance, the Bere Coats from the Fall/Winter 2005 Matroushka line was manufactured in China.

Oilily bags (handbags, lunch bags, knapsacks, etc) are manufactured in China.  Very few Oilily garments (women's and children) are manufactured in China.  If you buy a piece of clothing (other than the odd coat or jacket), chances are that you have purchased a Counterfeit Oilily item.

Shoes

Oilily shoes are NOT made in China.  Oilily shoes are made in Italy.  They are high quality shoes made, usually of leather.  Oilily does not design vinyl shoes.  They do not carry shoes made of plastic.  Plastic is a cheap material that does not breathe.  Oilily is not a "Cheap" line.  Oilily shoes are NOT manufactured in China.  If your daughter's Oilily shoes state, Made in China, you have a poor imitation of an original Oilily item.

Designs, Fabric and Sizing

Become Familiar with Oilily Designs and Fabric

Don't let a Seller tell you that the Oilily item you've purchased is "Made for the Asian Market".  Oilily manufacturers a wide variety of designs in a wide variety of fabrics.  But they do NOT design garments specifically for a particular market.  For instance, a dress may be designed in 3 different colorways.  Oilily Buyers (Individuals who work for Oilily USA, Stores that carry Oilily, etc) will then order the colorway that they feel would best suit their market.  The dresses for a particular design is always 100% the same.  The only difference is the colorway.  They will not shorten sleeves, miss attaching appliqués, add additional ruffles or eliminate them for that matter.  The designs are always the same.  The only difference is the colorway.  Do not let a Seller tell you that the item you purchased is made for the "Asian Market".  The seller should be telling the truth and stating that "They're selling a Fake Oilily item".

Every Oilily hangtag has a 5 digit code as well as a style name, like Damassa Leggings, or Dombo Pants, etc.  Does the item you're bidding on have a design name or does it have a generic name like, "Oilily Dress Bright Colors and Ruffles".  If the item is brand new and has a generic name, chances are that the item you're interested in is a Fake!

Become Familiar with Oilily Sizing Chart

Click Here for the Official Oilily Size Chart

Be wary when buying from Sellers who state their Oilily item as being a size that is not found on the Oilily Size Chart.  For example, Oilily does not have a size 7/8 nor a size 101.  Their sizes are 92, 98, 104, 116, 128.  However, there are exceptions to the rule.  For instance, in Europe, Oilily is available in size 110 and 122 in addition to the regular Oilily sizes.  Become familiar with Oilily sizing and you won't be cheated from buying a Fake Oilily item.

Reputable Oilily Sellers

Buy from REPUTABLE Oilily Sellers.  Get to know your Oilily Sellers.  How long have they been selling Oilily clothing?  What is their feedback like?  Just because an Oilily seller has  perfect feedback does not mean that the item you've purchased is an Authentic Oilily item.

Oilily is a High-End Designer Clothing & Accessories Line.  Like all High-End items, they don't come cheaply.  So, if you come across an Oilily item with a BIN price "Too Good to Be True", chances are that the item you're interested in is a Fake!

When in doubt, ask the seller.  Ask them where their item was made.  What does the hang tag look like?  Ask them for the name of the design, the 5 digit code, etc.  Ask for additional pictures.

After reading the above items and you're still not sure if an item is in fact Authentic Oilily well, feel free to email me.  I will do my best to help you out and let you know if something is or is not Authentic.
