Saskatoon Berries

The North American species of Amelanchier are variously called by the common names of Saskatoon berry, Serviceberry, Juneberry, and Shadberry.  They are found all over western North America.  The North American Indian has long used dried saskatoon berries in Pemmican.  Find a pemmican recipe on the next page.

Saskatoon berries are a very versatile berry. They have long been treasured as a wild fruit and now the growth in U-Pick saskatoon orchards, the very best berries are available on the consumer market.  Our cultured saskatoons are generally the size of blueberries and can be used in many different recipes.  Our cookbook "FROM THE BERRY PATCH" has recipes from pies, cheesecake, smoothies, wine, muffins, cookie, saskatoon onion sauce, to jams and jellies.
