Glycol Systems
Corrosion and Scaling. These can all reduce the operating efficiency of the system. It will reduce or create uneven heat transfer, cause equipment and piping failure and increase fuel costs to name a few.
Glycol systems usually contain corrosion and scale inhibitors initially. Over time these inhibitors will dissipate, breakdown or are used up pacifying the systems. Just like your car's radiator, the glycol break's down. For this reason they recommend changing the glycol every two years or so in cars.
With the vast size of some heating and chilled water systems this procedure is not very economical. An inhibitor additive can be added to the glycol system to bring the glycol back to original specifications.
Glycol is not as sensitive as water based systems, but should be analyized yearly to make sure parameters are at there proper level
Some of these parameters are:
Ph Freeze Point Strength by %wt. Reserve Alkalinity Suspended Solids
