Keep your shirt on... and everything else at Beaconia : RCMP By Leah Janzen Law Courts Reporter Sun worshipers wanting to bare it all on a secluded section of Beaconia beach will have to keep their private parts under wraps or possibly face charges, according to RCMP. Const. Chris Wilke of Grand Marais detachment said RCMP have recieved two complaints in the last month about nude sunbathers using the beach about 15 kilometers south of Grand Beach. As a result of the complaints, Wilkie said five people were stopped and asked to dress and one man was charged with causing a disturbance. That charge has since been stayed on the advice of the Crown's office, which is looking at all five complaints. Wilkie said nude bathers have been frequenting the secluded streach of beach in the area for decades and police have generally left them alone unless a complaint has been made. He said the beach has never been formally recognized as a nude beach, but area residents and cottage owners are aware the area has been used by nudists whomust walk up to 40 minutes to reach the secluded spot. "It's kind of like letting sleeping dogs lie," he said. "We don't have regular patrols of that area because it's so far off the road, but generally people there stay to themselves. If we do get a complaint we act on it by requesting the people get dressed." Wilkie said it has been a few years since police have responded to a complaint in the area and this is the first time anyone has been charged. Lynn Prucyk, co-owner of Crocus Grove Nudist Resort near Libau, said a sanctioned nudist area on Lake Winnipeg might be the answer. "They should designate an area," she said noting the lake has numerous stretches of beach that could be set aside. "They could put up signs that tell people that they might encounter nude people so they would be able to decide for themselves if they want to go or not."
