I'd never heard of "Fiddlers 3," a Canadian family band from Hamilton, Ontario until they contacted me and sent along a copy of their debut CD.

Combine 3 championship sibling fiddlers, an accordionist mother and a one-of-a-kind percussionist father and you have this unique sounding band. They've only been performing since 1996 when the siblings played together on a small church stage in Hamilton. At that event, local festival organizers enjoyed what they saw and soon they were playing at events all over town.

Like many young fiddlers in this country, they have had the opportunity to play with some of their inspirations including Natalie MacMaster, the Barra MacNeils and the Chieftains.

In the summer of 2001, they released their debut CD with 12 tracks. The CD features a great selection of traditional Canadian tunes as well as some standard Celtic tunes. A lot of the tunes are standards that the majority of fiddlers learn including "Whiskey Before Breakfast," "Julie Delaney," "Irish Washerwoman," "St. Anne's Reel," "Big John MacNeil," "Blackberry Blossom," "Fisher's Hornpipe" and that ever-popular "Orange Blossom Special."

Although Fiddlers 3' CD may not contain anything flashy or fancy, it's a CD that is very good, especially for beginner fiddlers, to learn some new tunes from that you can then play when you jam with other musicians.

Keep an eye out for Elaina, Stefan, Andrian, Mary Ann and Lorne - "Fiddlers 3."
