Seminars and Lectures:
- Pieces of the Word-- A great program for an outreach evening:
beautiful fabrics, striking quilts and the powerful Word of God combine
in a presentation that touches hearts and changes lives. Kim uses the Bible
Block samplers and other quilts to illustrate the timeless truths of scripture.
- The World in Patchwork-- Bible Block quilt trunk show illustrates
the amazing way God has taken the Quilters' Neighbourhood from a small
Partners in Patchwork quilt group in Squamish, BC, Canada to the world!
A great introduction to your own quilt program.
- The Hope That Is In Me-- [1 Peter 3:15 ] God draws straight
paths before us, sometimes with very crooked lines! There will be lots
of laughter, and few tears as Kim shares her testimony, accompanied by
ashow of personal quilts.
- Minding Your Patchwork"Ps": Christmas Quilts -- A clear
gospel message and timely reminders for a truly "perfect" Christmas,
focus on Christmas quilt projects in a unique presentation for your women's
outreach during the busy holiday season.
- Jacob's Ladder -- Kim demonstrates modern patchwork techniques
with the first block from The Word in Patchwork. Choose either a one-hour
demonstration or a three-hour hands-on workshop. Either way, participants
will be inspired and encouraged to discover how easy beautiful patchwork
can be. Great start for a quilt outreach program.
- Mystery Mixer-- A fun and different activity for your next social.
Each participant sews a few small seams with help from Kim. At the end
of the evening, a table runner quilt top is revealed and given away as
a door prize!
Classes:
- Bible Blocks-- choose one block for a pillow top in a three-hour
beginners' class or make several blocks during a weekend retreat for a table
runner. Kim introduces quick rotary cutting techniques and basic patchwork.
- Hope of Eternal Life-- day-long workshop completes this beautiful
table runner [some advance preparation is necessary]. Groups may choose to
work cooperatively to make a banner using the same elements.
- D----'s Darlings -- Just for fun! This easy mystery quilt top is
designed to be completed in two days. Perfect for a quilters' retreat. Some
patchwork experience is necessary.
- Slick Tricks for speedy piecing – a handful of great tricks
for making beautiful blocks from scraps. Select one class to make a small
quilt or table runner, or do all four for a great sampler of simple
techniques you will use again and again. Plan on 2½ hours for each
class if you wish to complete a table runner top; 1 hour per class to learn each technique
if you wish to assemble your sampler at home.
Choose from:
- Fast Fours and Nifty Nines -- start with a stack of squares.
"How cool is that?"methods to make two-at-a-time four-patch
and nine-patch blocks. Warning: these are truly addictive!
- Gaggle of Geese – no waste, and no triangles! Make four-at-a-time
flying geese units that you can assemble into Dutchman’s Puzzle
blocks.
- Triangle Gems – squares and rectangles combine to make
two-at-a-time units almost like magic. You’ll be amazed at the versatility
of these little units you can assemble into a Duck and Ducklings
block.
- Cheating at Cards – the Card Trick
blocks is an old favourite that has many quilters pulling out their
hair keeping track of different size triangles. Our slick method begins
with strip piecing: no triangles at all!
- Greeting Cards Table Runner – [3 hours] choose your format:
the adventurous will enjoy this as a mini-mystery or the cautious may prefer
to know the "solution" up front. Either way, you'll finish the top
for a beautiful table that will make a perfect hostess gift or addition to
your own décor. We use Christmas colours for Advent, but you can choose
your own favourites for a beautiful result.
- Down with the Dogs! – a non-threatening overview of
free-motion quilting. The focus is on fun and "meandering"outside
your comfort zone. Two sessions: Day 1 [3 hours] introduces the basics of:
meandering, outline quilting, free-motion "stitch-in-the-ditch".
Day 2 [6 hours] includes stippling,
McTavishing; free-form feathered borders; trapunto by machine, and quilt-as-you
go assembly methods. Some quilting experience is necessary. While this
is a "process" class, you will be working on three
simple lap/baby quilts that you can then finish at your leisure—perfect
for charity or utility quilts.
- Beginner's Quilting --From choosing fabric and rotary cutting to
basic quilting and binding skills, Kim guides new quilters through all the
steps needed to make their own lap-size Jacob's Ladder quilt: Six 3-hour lessons.
- Beyond Beginner -- Moving on from beginner's quilting, learn several
more advanced techniques, plus diagonal sets and sashing in this beautiful
quilt that is based on two blocks from Rejoice!
- Easy Eights -- 2 1/2" strips left over from other projects are
perfect for this 2-hour workshop that takes all the fear out of set-in points.
