Kettle Corn History
There is no exact date as to when kettle corn was introduced
to the western world. It is known that kettle corn has a history
as early as the 1700's as a tasty treat among German immigrants
in the United States.
Then, hog fat was heated up in large cast iron kettles over
open fires in order to pop the corn. Honey, molasses or sugar
was added to sweeten the popcorn. The salty flavour of the
hog fat combined with the sweetener, created the unique salty
sweet flavour that is kettle corn.
Today, corn oil is used to pop corn kernels which enhances
that roasted corn flavour of kettle corn. Next, sugar is added
to the hot oil and caramelizes slightly so the popcorn is
light, crispy, and not sticky or greasy. Lastly, sea salt
is added as a substitute for the salty flavour of hog fat.
The end result is slightly sweet and slightly salty flavoured
popcorn which is the best popcorn you have ever tasted.
Mr. Poppers Kettle Corn is 100% Canadian
