One beginner's journey to dressing like a Jedi.
Entry One: The Muslin |
|
| A practice mock-up (often called a "muslin" in the sewing world) of my Jedi robes, using extremely cheap, ugly fabric. Nothing is hemmed yet and the stitches are really big and clumsy, because, well, if I had to rip anything out, it would be easier this way. This was an exercise in finding the right pattern and sizing. I will choose a slightly darker fabric for the actual costume. | |
| This time, without the flash. You can see the lines a bit more clearly here, though the colour is a bit off. I still haven't fashioned the dicky (under tunic) yet, so there is still another layer to go at the neckline. Only the tabbard on the right is hemmed and pressed. The other is just a strip of fabric that I didn't bother to hem. | |
| A shot from an angle, further away. If this shot were closer, you could see that the tunic shoulder is tucked-under the way Obi Wan's tunic shoulder is tucked. The seam was just so long, this seemed to be the way to fix it without trying to re-do the sleeves. Sleeves SUCK when you're just learning how to sew. | |
| Closer up, from the other side. The belt isn't mine - it's the belt we bought for my husband... but I wanted to test the width of the Obi vs. the width of a belt. The little rainbow on the left side of the belt there will soon become silver and bronze "food capsules" and, of course, I'll have a lightsabre (forgot to clip it on for these photos). | |
