Muqarnas
Muqarnas is the Arabic word for stalactite vault, an architectural ornament developed around the middle of the tenth century in north eastern Iran. Muqarnas is a three dimensional architectural decoration composed of niche-like elements arranged in rings. These elements are described by the Timurid astronomer and mathematician Ghyath al-Din al Kashi (died 1429). They have been used for decoration inside and outside of buildings for many years but there is still no algorithmic method for generating Muqarnas. We are trying to find geometric techniques. This may be applied in several areas such as Digital Architecture, Movie Making and Virtual Tourism.
