Robert

His mistake was to act upon his sense of worth;
in not accepting scorn and isolation.
He’d had too much already
so he fought the next rejection
with perseverance
and was pushed away.
Labeled a stalker
he was papered and charged
then put to the test.

He sat before the panel
and told of his gay alcoholic father
and the cancer in his mother
and the time he sought help for his grief.
They heard of how he’d admired his doctor
the same way as his priest.
They noted his tension and spotted his tears.

So the panel decided he was depressed
and delusional
not sure of his gender
so they outfitted his ankle with a transmitter
and sentenced him to another doctor
with his needle of jumpy juice and pills that made him anxious and other pills to calm him down.
They said “you must - you must, or its jail for you, you can’t refuse. It will make you behave and help you learn that you’re not worthy of respect.”
It worked.

(watch how he) FALLS

Don't think that when you
played your visions on paper,
catching the truth in your world,
you were fooling anyone.
You were being who you are.
Its the part of you that so suddenly destroys
that had everyone fooled.
Including you.

Hope

is locked in the place between trauma and love.
Damage and eagerness
vie for power in her eyes.
She talks on and on of everyone
all perceptions popping in stilted words.
She tries so hard to be accepted.
They think she is absurd.

You're running the edge
Teasing one step to the other side
Far enough to tip you over
And you may not right yourself again
To you it's part of the game
Running the edge

But you'll never really know your pain.
