said there were two stations QRMing on 275, and then one of them moved to 313
and QRMed there. Are you saying it was you, and that
you didn't hear the other stations at all, in both cases? Because that's
hard to believe. You didn't hear KFM, the strongest signal on the band on 275, AET
from south FL on 275, David from VT on 313, Doug from Texas on 313, and the AZ
station on 313? You must have the
strangest antenna pattern ever documented in the history of mankind. Damn the
luck.

Since
you posted that you willfully QRMed AET, because you believe he is a bootlegger, you admitted to a violation of
Part 97. If it turns out AET IS a bootlegger, you'll get a pass. But if he
isn't a bootlegger, well.....I guess you'll get a little timeout. No big deal.
Now if you have an email from the FCC that indicates you're OK no matter what
the status of AET, then posting it here would be a great idea.
Otherwise, people reading this thread might think worse of you, and I don't
want that to happen...since I'm always fair when it comes to our hobby.

Here's a
list of my concerns....
1. QRMing a
station you "think" is a bootlegger is a violation of the rules. If you assume they are
illegal but they are not, you have broken the rules. It's bad practice to
make this assumption. It is far more sensible to assume they are
legitimate and let them have the frequency.
2. Assuming
someone is "playing a tape" as an excuse to start a QSO potentially
on top of someone is again extremely bad practice. Since you have heard someone
on frequency, it is your duty to listen long enough to determine if it is a
tape. Again, the sensible assumption is to assume there is a
"live" QSO in progress, and let them have the frequency.
3. Saying
that you can't hear stations therefore you didn't knowingly QRM someone is only
good up to a point. This excuse really falls down when you have stations all around
the compass in QSO. Again, apply the "reasonable man" standard.
Is it reasonable to assume you couldn't hear anyone? No, it isn't
reasonable.
All of the above reek of extremely poor amateur practice. [ß And much, much more….]
What ever happened to the polite amateur? That was rhetorical so you
don't have to struggle for an answer.

For anyone that's interested, the first skip distance to Vancouver from Phoenix is 1230 miles, and RDF works great at that level... It isn't that inaccurate for multiple skips (if it was, we wouldn't have rotators and we wouldn't be turning our beams to distant DX entities now would we?).
Distance from Phoenix to Montgomery is about 1500 miles... That's also well within the "first skip" distance... We aren't talking DX here folks.
And Dan, I don't think I ever accused you of creating QRM on 14.275...

- I was the one who called the Houghton County Sheriff Department. I was listening to a DX pile-up on 14.277 MHz when I heard a very faint "SOS"
about 1 KHz away. So I tuned down to 14.276 and
heard the SOS along with a callsign that the FCC database
showed belonging to a Mark Morgan in Houghton County, Michigan.
I had never heard of this person before, but judging from his location, I knew of SEVERAL bodies of water inside and surrounding Houghton County. So I thought it prudent to phone the sheriff. Why the sheriff? Because of the possibility it was a hoax. At least the sheriff could drive over to Mr. Morgan's home to see if he was safe, instead of sending a bunch of CG search and rescue vessels.
Personally, I don't believe the hoax was generated by Mr. Morgan. After re-thinking the propagation factors AND the manner in which the CW was sent, I suspect it's a certain someone who has been in previous trouble with the FCC.
BTW, for those who keep using the argument that it couldn't have been me phoning this in to the sheriff since I am deaf....well I'm not totally deaf....yet. I have had cochlear implants surgically implanted in my eardrums to help relieve the pressure which is slowing the progression of deafness. The implants do make voices sound like chipmunks, but my Morse code hearing/copying abilities have actually increased.

some others) drive them off frequency this morning. VK9DWX was operating on 14.275, and these clowns
operated on top of them, and drove them off frequency. I suppose that the new FCC regulations are that an FCC licensed
station preempts any station licensed by any other ITU approved licensing
authority (HI HI), and that DX expeditions are to be considered
"harmful interference" (HI HI).
Anyone else hear the lids driving VK9DWX off frequency? [ß Yes, I did.]
One fellow was really annoyed to hear N1FM telling him off, and asked N1FM to identify. N1FM identified in code, and told the guy that if he didn't understand it, he must be one of the new no code generals or extras. He then made a few snide remarks about pipsqueaks using IC-703's and 706's, pointing out that he had an IC-7800. Great operator, isn't he? Really welcoming to new hams, isn't he?
