I started playing Warhammer when
the 4th edition came out which included
the High Elf and Goblin plastic
miniatures and I still think this is one of the
best games that Games Workshop
has produced. The fifth edition kept most
of the same game mechanics but
made some major changes to the magic system.
Well so far it seems that the
magic
is again the target of massive rewriting, and
not that this is a bad thing. I
found that magic spells and items were the elements
of Warhammer that caused the
greatest
problems and I always had to make special
rules for them at my tournaments.
Well I am sure that this won't be the case with
the new set of rules, but until
we all have the 6th edition in our own hands I won't
speculate to much on this. The
armies that I personally played the most were the
High Elves and the Skaven, but
my favorite are the Wood Elves. Below I have
links to some of the armies that
I have images of and I hope to add more in the
future and eventually write some
tactical advise.
Oct. 1/10. So now that the new
edition
is out I will give my own feelings on the
updated rules. After running
numerous
demos at the Sentry Box I found that
the games played smoothly and
everyone
really enjoyed some of the changes.
I added a 2nd level wizard to
each
army so players could get a feel of how the
new magic system worked. Overall
it was a great success and most people went
off to buy there own copy. There
were a couple of issues that came up and I feel
that others will run into this
too. Since magic comes before shooting then this puts
guess range weapons out of
sequence
because allot of times you have to check the
distance for spells. Now say
you
guess ranges first and then cast your spells and
the unit you wanted to fire at
fled or was destroyed. Well there are all kinds of house
rules we can come up with but I
think GW is going to have to straighten this one out
themselves. The best changes were
definitely the unit strength, flyers, chariots, hatred,
stubborn, and overrun. After I
have played a few more larger battles I will add some
more insight. I will try and get
some images of the miniatures from the boxed set,
since being an outrider meant
that
I had to paint the complete contents. They turned
out pretty good and they will go
nicely with my existing armies.
Updated May 7/11: Finally
an update on my Warhammer page, added a link
to my
Tomb Kings which have been a work in progress since they were first
released with
their book in the 6th edition. I stopped playing them for the most part
in 7th edition
waiting for a new book and finally now with 8th they got one.
Updated May 30/12 : Finally adding something new to
the Warhammer page, my
Orge Campaign army. Started with 500 points and growing 200 points per
month so
far I am happy with both the look and playability ot the army.
