Kara's Flamenco Page Update Archive

05/24/08:
A quick update. Posted a video on my page of my interview for Portugal's RTP and Toronto's omnivision over here, and also a note that I was asked to perform during Vancouver's Portuguese Heritage Month, and have arranged a show at the Chapel Arts theatre on June 13, 2006. More info about the event >can be found here<.

09/04/07:
As I have posted on my myspace page awhile ago, this July 2007 I was sent along with seven other dancers of Portuguese Azorean descent by the Azorean government to go take part in a workshop (called Dance of the Senses - Memories in Movement) and perform at the Teatro Angrense on the island of Terceira. The first part was our solos, as displayed as a condensed version on the video page, the second part was a 10-minute group collaboration set to traditional Azorean music, as seen on this youtube video. I have posted a couple photo galleries of this trip <here> and <here>, Enjoy!

05/01/07:
Sorry it has been such a long time since the last update! To make it up, here are lots of updates combined in one! First of all there are three new galleries in the Picture Page, a Kara Miranda photoshoot, an End Café gallery, and an Old Pictures page. Two new videos added to Videos Page, my interview for a local T.V. station and a clip from the same show of the Carmen Amaya documentary. A pencil portrait was added to my Art Page, it is of my friend Celina I drew as a gift for her going away to Japan. New links have been added to the links page, notably Sandra La Espuelita's page: http://www.flamencodancer.eu/. Many dead links were found and will be cleaned up in my next update.

And last but not least, I have created an entirely new Book Review Page. A book review of the "The Flamenco Academy" by Sara Bird has been added. Also, I am anxiously awaiting to receive "The Gypsy Chronicles" from Alison Mackie in the mail. You can visit her site at:http://thegypsychronicles.com in the meantime.

08/20/06:
Added new pictures I took of Centro Flamenco's company's performance at Granville Island to the picture gallery, in addition to adding the flamenco and cow video to the videos page. Trust me it's funny! Next update will be soon, and it will include a book review of the fabulous "The Flamenco Academy" by Sara Bird.

04/21/06:
Finally, a new update! Well I will add new pictures/videos once my group La Triana performs again. One reason we are taking a bit of a break is because the café we regularly performed at sold:

First off, I added a link to "Sandra La Espuelita, Flamenco Dancer & Teacher based in London UK" at: http://www.flamencodancer.co.uk. She offers skirt making services as well, so I added the link to my costumes links (under FAQ).

Last but not least, I updated the Local Scene page to clear up why it's not updated! Cheers, ~Kara Miranda

11/09/05:
Just to update, I am really happy to get into the flamenco once again this year, after a year long flamenco break due to a demanding 8-month school schedule.

05/15/05:
Long time, no update! Well now school is over and I can finally update a couple things in here. I've just graduated from an intensive 8-month program in Digital Animation, you can check out my new art website at: http://karadesigns.ca | Kara Miranda Lawrence Designs

Thanks for a heads up from Antoinette Penton, I've added a print option to my Language of the Fans popup as there was no previous way of copying down the information. Also I added a new link to the Canadian Flamenco Links page. Check out Daniel Turner's website for custom construction of flamenco guitars. Also added eight other links to the Canadian Flamenco Links page, which is good news because this means that more flamenco aficionados are making websites and getting connected on the world wide web.

Oh and also a note, thanks to everyone who takes the time to sign my guestbook! :) (besides the countless spam I receive in it every day). I have received 145 entries since the guestbook feature first went online!

10/17/04:
Updated the flamenco links page with Es Flamenco and OLE!.

Just a note that I have recently moved to Vancouver and am currently going to school for Digital Animation after graduating from a Visual Arts program in Victoria. Therefore, I am not able to update this site with news about the flamenco happenings on the island, as well due to my incredibly busy schedule it is difficult to be that involved with the flamenco scene in Vancouver. Hopefully I will find more time in the future. It is hard to be without your flamenco fix!

06/13/04:
18 Pictures added to the '03 to '04 Miscellaneous Flamenco Pictures page. Also the Local Scene page is updated with new events and a list of past events.

05/25/04:
Just a small update, I have updated my About WebMistress pages, have included a link to my new Art Page in the Flamenco Art section, and added a couple of events on the Local Scene page, although that site is still under construction.

10/07/03:
School has been keeping me quite busy, but when I find free time the next big update will be the Local Scene page. Just a couple of updates--> First lots of new links on the Canadian Links page:
Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy
Arte Flamenco
Holly Stewert: Flamenco Dance Classes

Hispanic Dance Theatre
Charo Juana Flamenco Dance
Kari Alba
L’Académie de Flamenco Gitan de Jaqueline Murillo
¿Qué Pasa?
Flamenco del Mar
Secondly added an article about John Galliano's flamenco/dance inspired fashion line on my Articles About Flamenco page. ¡Ciao!

08/10/03:
Variety is the spice of life, si? To keep things more interesting I have decided to switch around the main picture ever so often. When some friends visited kflamenco.com to test the counter and they weren't registering I came to the conclusion that it's broken and it's time for a new one. Just a few updates this time round: I have finished the Origin of the Word "Flamenco" page, the Useful Resource Links page, the Articles About Flamenco page and my dance video is back online at Kara Miranda's Tango page. Also I have volunteered for the job of updating Alma de Espana's website, so check there for all the up to date info on flamenco happenings in Victoria. Next update expect to see the completed Local Scene page!

07/11/03:
I am confused why after the major update there are maybe 3 visitors per day when before there was 40 per day? Well the good news is www.kflamenco.com has almost reached the 40,000 visitor mark! Kara's Art page is updated with my most recent art, the Fans page is completed and added printable versions to all the Flamenco Info pages. After a year of trying to find a guestbook without annoying adds I have finally found one:
Sign the Guestbook
or View the Guestbook

07/07/03:
The Pictures site is completed with 145 images, not to mention 145 thumbnails and 156 new webpages (Phew!). Most of the Information About Flamenco is completed: more to come soon!

06/22/03:
Kara's Flamenco Page has been re-designed, with a new graphical layout and updated content. This update has taken longer than expected, so instead of waiting until everything is completely ready I'm uploading the pages over several installations. The next one should be in a couple weeks. So far the pages completed are Sitemap, Awards, Contact Info, FAQ, About Webmistress, Site Info, Recipes, Links, and Flamenco Art.

Update on Site Progress -> Hope everyone had great holidays, I'm back from my wonderful (but cold!) trip to LA and Los Vegas, and in my few days back I have been working hard on this site, making a new graphical layout in addition to newly revamped pages and a guestbook. Now all I have to do is handle the technical problems (wish me luck) then it will be up!

11/03/2002:
A new update! This layout of this website hasn't been changed in over two years so I think come Christmas break I'll find some free time to update this page with a new graphical/content design, but for now I can barely find any time for even small updates. Also my guestbook service has suddenly closed about a month ago, so I'll have to find a new service soon, preferably one without annoying ads.
The Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page is updated with events and the class schedule updated for the new year.

07/07/2002:
I have been very busy finishing off grade 12 these past few months, but now I am finally graduated and have found a few spare moments to update Kara's Flamenco Page. Sorry to people who have emailed me, I will try to respond as soon as possible.
The Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page is updated with new events and past events.
The Flamenco Links page has been updated with a link to the new Alma de España website, the flamenco group in Victoria, BC run by Veronica Maguire and Harry Owen.
Two new oil paintings added to the Kara Miranda Art page.

03/27/2002:
A new guestbook has been temporarily added until shaw.ca offers these services again.

03/26/2002:
Three new paintings added to Maria Miranda's Art page and email address updated:
Updated the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page with a new Pena Flamenca event in May.

03/14/2002:
Kara's Flamenco Page has passed the 20,000 visitors mark!! : ) Thanks for all that have been supporting my page, I'm happy to hear from you and glad that many people have used my website as a flamenco research resource for school and their own personal interest and knowledge. It makes me very proud to know that I am helping people in some way and it gives me initiative to keep on adding to this website.
New addition added to the Articles About Flamenco page, a Spanish/Flamenco-inspired fashion shoot from Glamour magazine.
Updated the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page with new events for the next few months.
New pencil drawing added to the Kara Miranda Flamenco Art page.

01/15/2002:
Wow almost 20,000 visitors to Kara's Flamenco page! So far, according to my counter, this site has had visitors from the UK, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, France, New Zealand, Finland, Brazil, Taiwan, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Japan, Italy, South Africa, Israel and Turkey as well as throughout Canada and the US. I guess flamenco is a very worldwide topic! Now without further ado, here are the updates for the year 2002:

All the webpages have been updated a little bit for the new year. I was planning on a major redesign, but that does not seem realistic at this point. Instead I have fine-tuned the webpages for errors, also adding new content and updates as listed below.

New article, written by me, on the Articles About Flamenco page.
The Spain Photo Gallery and the My Trip to Spain page have been merged together as one, including a shorter write-up and flipbooks of all the images with comments about each one.
The Flamenco Pictures page has been updated with all the images being viewable through a pop-up flipbook, and a new picture was added.
The Kara Miranda Flamenco Art page has been updated with a few more art pieces.
The Kara's Fan Page has been updated with a photograph of some of the fans hanging up on my wall on a display in my room.
I have added a video of me performing a tangos piece on the Flamenco Multimedia page, and I'm planning to add more audio/video in the future.
The Flamenco Links page has been updated with a new category for "Canadian Flamenco Links" and the links in the "Other Great Links" section have been alphabetized.
Added new event in February to Victoria Local Flamenco Scene.
Updated the Info About the Webmistress page .
Also, you might notice that if you right-click on any of the pages, the sign "© Kara Miranda 1999-02. All rights reserved." appears. I have added this to discourage information/picture-piracy.

12/27/2001:
Kara's flamenco page is simultaneously in the process of getting moved to a new server, to shaw.ca from @home and being majorly redesigned for the New Year. For the time being this server does not offer a counter or a guestbook, but hopefully these features will be added soon.
My new email address is kflamenco@shaw.ca and the new web address is http://www.kflamenco.com/.

12/02/2001:
Miguelito from dcflamenco has made an animated gif from my Flamenco Fans page images, and it's so cute that I have to put it up. Thanks!
Added a whole new link section at the bottom of the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page, because recently I've found a couple of good Canadian flamenco links, and I really want to support the flamenco scene in Canada.

12/01/2001:
I have not been able to update the website for awhile because we have been experiencing some computer problems, but now I believe they are fixed. I think that "Kara's Flamenco Page" is due for a new look, so during Christmas holidays I am planning to make a major redesign of this site with lots of new content added. In the meantime, here are a few updates:

Added some new events to the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page, a December Peña Flamenca show on the 8th and two Alma de España performances this coming January. Also added a credit to Barbara Pendrick for one of the photos used on the page.

Added three new links to the Flamenco Links page: a link to the nuevo-flamenco guitarist Eric Hanson's website, a link to the Flamenco in Calgary website, and a link to the official Gallardos shoes website (it will soon be updating to include an online catalog).

Added a couple new links to the Flamenco Costumes page.

As of 09/30/2001:

Added a correction to the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page, the October Peña Flamenca show is on the 12th not the 6th.

09/10/2001:
The Flamenco Pictures page is temporarily offline as I am taking measures to protect my images against image piracy.

09/01/2001:
Created a new page Articles About Flamenco, in which I will add a collection of interesting articles and pictures from magazines about flamenco. So far I have added Spanish Fire, an interesting article about flamenco in Jerez de la Frontera I found in my travel magazine, (I was very surprised to see my friend Yukiyo in one of the pictures!) and Feeling Flamenco, photographs of some interesting flamenco/Spanish-inspired designer clothes.

Created another new page Kara's Flamenco Page Sitemap to help people with the navigation around my website and check which pages are updated. Also included a search engine.

Added a November event to the Victoria Local Flamenco Scene page.

Did a routine check on my Flamenco Links page to make sure they were all up-to-date and added three new links:

Flamenco Arts Northwest, an organization to promote the flamenco arts in the Pacific Northwest (the Seattle area), Flamenco Buzz, a frequently updated page about the happenings in flamenco, Atlanta Flamenco Productions,a beautifully designed site about an Atlanta group of flamenco performers.

05/25/2001:
Added a June Peña Flamenco event on my Local Scene page.
Fixed errors on my pages, and I found this funny flamenco cartoon page that you can check out for a laugh here: http://www.angelfire.com/biz2/bette/flamenco1.html

05/24/2001:
Added three new links of Vancouver based flamenco artists on my Local Scene page.
Made my Flamenco Links page up-to-date, removing broken links, changing addresses, and I added a new link to a nicely designed flamenco site from Holland Flamenco.nl. Wish I could speak Dutch! :)

05/22/2001:
I again updated my Local Scene page with a new design, and events that will happen in the next few months. There are still more performances to be added. In the past performance at Hatley Castle I added a little bar of pictures taken from my video tape of the event.

05/11/2001:
Updated my Local Scene page with an event this Sunday at Hatley Castle, that I will be performing in . Expect more updates on that page about local flamenco events/classes happening in Victoria.

04/04/2001: una muy pocita update!
Just as I launch the new edition of Kara's Flamenco Page, so sad but I have to leave! I'll be gone for a few weeks while I'm on a band trip (down to L.A.) so I won't be able to answer emails or update until the end of the month. Here's my last little update until then, hasta luego!

In addition to fixing all these broken links, unloadable images, and spelling errors, I combined the two pages What's New and Planned Updates. Notice the little link under the title? Thanks for the help from miguelito!

04/01/2001:
This is the third major redesign and update to Kara's Flamenco Page!
I am really happy with the success of my site, Kara's Flamenco Page has reached over 10,000 visitors!! Thank you everyone for supporting my site, I never imagined it would get so much response! This update has taken about 3 days and countless hours to complete, yet there are still pages I have yet to complete.
