International Health Group Kabul Medical Library Project
IMPORTANT NOTICE - We have ceased collection of all donations. The project has completed collection of our charitable library and it is currently being transported to Kabul Medical Institute, Afghanistan. The final library consists of over 1700 modern medical textbooks with selections from each of medicine's major subfields. The purchase value of the total library is currently estimated to be over one quarter of a million dollars and will provide both the staff and students of Kabul Medical Institute with a valuable resource that they can utilize for years to come.
To all those who contributed to the project - Thank you.
The Kabul Medical Library Project was a volunteer effort to establish and ship a core medical library to Kabul Medical College in Afghanistan. The project held charitable taxation status under the University of Manitoba and was directed by student volunteers within the International Health Group (IHG) of the Manitoba Medical Student's Association (MMSA). The project was conceived by Dr. Richard Gordon, a Professor with the Department of Radiology at the University of Manitoba, in 2001. Since its inception, the Kabul Medical Library Project grew to involve a wide variety of individuals and organizations that volunteered their time and resources to ensure its success.
