THERAPY AND COUNSELLING

In his therapy practice, Dr. Zaide works with couples and individuals. The individuals are most often in their late teens through mature adulthood.

Client concerns

The concerns and aspirations people bring are varied. Many seek to connect more deeply with their partners and others in their lives- to communicate more effectively and authentically. Others want to learn from and grow through difficult transitions, losses and impasses. Many are struggling to understand and overcome distressing patterns of thinking and feeling (anxiety, depression). They want to live more in the present with greater clarity, flexibility and vitality.

His neurosciences background has made him aware of the particular issues faced by people living with learning differences and a variety of neurological conditions.

Approach

His approach is integrative and egalitarian, rooted in a humanistic perspective. It emphasizes an authentic relationship with the client and connection with the person's resources and strengths. It also entails a basic respect, acceptance and concern for the person and the situations in life they find themselves in, regardless of their ethnic, cultural or religious backgrounds.

In the process of exploring the individual's or the couples' issues, he draws on perspectives from existential-humanistic psychotherapy, family systems thinking, experiential and emotionally centered therapies as well as cognitive behavioural therapy.

His work in some clients is also informed by his experience with mindfulness-based approaches and personal meditation practice. Mindfulness-based approaches have been incorporated more generally in more recently developed cognitive therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy or mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
