These pages exist as a tribute to Joan Walsh Anglund's many years of dedication to writing and illustrating children's book of great beauty and wonder. From her early publishing success in 1958 (A Friend is Someone Who Likes You honored as one of the ten best-illustrated children's books of the year by the New York Times) to her present contributions (at age 75, she's still writing), Joan Walsh Anglund has shared her unique ability to capture, in her drawings and stories, the very essence of childhood. As observed by her publishers, "[i]n rhythmic text and in delicately colored, wholly irresistible pictures full of humor, action, and keen observation, Mrs. Anglund interprets to a small child the busy, complex world around him and shows him how his own small world and the important things in it - his house, his pets, his parents, and himself - have their own very special place." While some would argue she writes more about children than to them, there is no doubt that Joan Walsh Anglund's books are of surpassing beauty - I'm pleased to share a little of the joy I have found through her eyes and hands!
