Jason Margolis is a director, writer, picture editor, story editor and instructor. Jason is currently a supervising producer and writer at Greedy Productions, running a nationally broadcast series for Citytv and G4. Throughout 2008 and 2009, Jason directed the 26-episode television series Tube Tales for Force Four Entertainment and Canwest Global. He also recently directed the documentary Ayaa: A Hero's Journey for Monkey Ink Media and APTN, which has delighted audiences at film festivals in Europe, Australia and North America. Together with Robert Wenzek, Jason created the comedy series Uncorked, a 2009 winner of the highly coveted Totally Television development award from the National Screen Institute – Canada. Jason writes dramatic screenplays with Giller Prize-nominated novelist Todd Babiak (Toby: A Man and The Garneau Block). Their collaborations include a teen hockey comedy entitled The Great One, which won a Fellowship from the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters. In 2008, he co-created and wrote the documentary television series Truth Be Known, in development with Screen Siren Pictures and Canwest Global. Jason also co-wrote and edited the Canwest Global documentary Inside Boystown, and he co-wrote the award-winning The Merry Ghost Of Summerville - a short film entirely in iambic pentameter - with director Sam Dulmage. Margolis completed the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters' Story Editor training program and has worked as a story editor for Screen Siren Pictures, Clique Pictures and Monkey Ink Media. Jason directed and co-wrote the feature Lucky Stars, which screened at several festivals in Canada and the United States following its premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival. Several short films he directed have screened in festivals and on television. After Shock was a winner of a Kickstart Award, sponsored by the Directors Guild of Canada. Its screenings included the Vancouver and Victoria film festivals, and it was broadcast on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Knowledge Network. Tierheim (The Animal Shelter) won the prize for Best Film at the Reel Fast 48 Hour Film Festival, and went on to screen at numerous festivals, including the Whistler Film Festival. Among recent short films, The Sounds of Earth screened at the 2006 NWProjections Film Festival, Candemonium screened at the 2007 Doxa Documentary Film Festival, and Rudy & Jack screened at the 2008 PXL This Festival in Los Angeles. Jason has directed many music videos, including videos for Great Lake Swimmers (Nettwerk Records), The Evaporators (Mint Records), Octoberman (White Whale), Kids These Days (White Whale), Wendy McNeill, Danielle Hébert, Lin Elder, The Smalls, and Latin rock band ¡Maracujah!. He continues to shoot many of the popular Nardwuar the Human Serviette segments for MuchMusic. His editing work has been seen on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, CTV, Global Television, Citytv, Bravo!, Space: The Imagination Station, Animal Planet, HGTV, and E! Entertainment Television. His editing credits include the horror-comedy series "Fearing Mind" for Jim Henson Productions; several series for Omni Film Productions Ltd., including "Champions of the Wild" and "Healthy Homes"; the documentaries K-9 Corrections, and Marshal McLuhan: The Intellectual Comet; the syndicated action series "The Dream Team" starring Roger Moore; the feature film Crossing, starring Bif Naked and Sebastian Spence; and the short film The Breakup Artist, for which he was nominated for a best editor Leo Award. In addition to his duties as a filmmaker, Jason is a film instructor. He teaches dramatic screenwriting at Vancouver Film School. He has also taught and mentored projects for the National Screen Institute - Canada and the Cineworks Society for Independent Filmmakers, and taught editing and directing at The Art Institute of Vancouver.
