It all started with an email in late summer 2002. July and I both received an email from our ISP, Shaw Cable. It was a promotional email where your name would be entered into a draw. All you had to do was send out a few emails to your friends recommending Shaw as their Internet supplier. July was willing to do so but I was a little leery, this might be another was to get onto a spam list. So I told her maybe it would be best not to send out the emails. July decided to do it anyway.

About a month later we receive a call from a manager at Shaw telling us that our names were drawn and we had won a prize. Apparently from the emails July sent out someone did sign up with Shaw, we qualified for the draw, and we were picked as the winners. We had a choice between two major prizes: four days in Disneyland for four, or a sixteen day cruise of the Greek Islands for two. We chose to go to Greece.

Needless to say we were excited. A little skeptical, but excited. After a couple of phone calls back and forth it turned out to be legitimate and we celebrated. Yippie!!! A few weeks later Shaw showed up to film a commercial where we accepted a large novelty check and get to act silly on television. It took about 90 minutes to film the 60 second or so spot. We did it all on the front lawn so the neighbors were all wondering what was happening. We don't know if it ever aired because we didn't see it but Shaw was nice enough to give us a videotape copy. It was all very glamorous.

The big winner

It was now time to make plans, get more excited, and hear July say "I told you so". We decided to go in May 2003. It was about six or so months away which gave us plenty of time to get ready. We chose May because the rainy season would be over and the temperatures would be bearable.

Our itinerary was as follows: May 4 - Fly to Athens, Winnipeg-Toronto-Montreal-Athens May 5,6 - Get aboard the MTS Triton for two days and visit Mykonos, Turkey, Patmos May 7-14 - Rhodes May 15 - Back on ship and visit Crete and Santorini May 16-18 - Athens May 19 - Fly back home, Athens-Montreal-Toronto-Winnipeg This is the World of Vacations "Classical Odyssey" package.

We took over 900 photos on this trip. Web space prohibits us from showing all of them but we have chosen a few we would like to share. As in all such cases the pictures rarely do justice to actually being there and seeing some of these grand sites so keep that in mind when viewing the photos. We also will point out some of Biblically significant sites we visited too.
We hope you enjoy our trip report and in seeing some of the interesting places we were able to visit.
