Day 1 - Sunday, May 4, 2003
| The first day is a travel day. We're up at 2:15 am, get the final
things packed away, and jump into a taxi at 3:30 am. We're at the
airport by 3:50 am and it looks like we're the only one in the whole
place!! Our flight leaves at 5:45 am and there is no one here. Not
much we can do. We go to the observation deck and start our traditional
trip long game of Gin Rummy. Eventually the check in desk opens
up and, believe it or not, we're the first ones in line. No, wait,
we are the line. We check in and then go through security.
I have to take my belt off and they go though my carry on. The security
person uses some sort of sniffing device to smell my camera. Looks like we're good to go. Our
Air Canada flight finally took off at 6:00 am and just over two
hours later we're in Toronto. |

We claim our bags but now have to find our way to the other terminal
for the international flights. No problemo. We jump on the shuttle
bus and head over to Terminal 3. We check in and have about 4 hours
before our flight leaves. So, what is there to do in the Toronto
airport on a Sunday morning? Not much. Most of the shops aren't
open yet. We walk around a little, look at all the SARS poster, buy lunch, get some snacks for
the plane and a few magazines. There goes fifty dollars. We finally
embark our Air Transat flight and are on our way to Athens. But
wait, we have one stopover in Montreal. There we spend nearly 90
minutes waiting to load more passengers, then we fly to Athens.
It's a grueling 9 hour flight. At least we can get up and stand
every once in a while and they played a couple of movies for us.
