| In May, 2002, Linda and I travelled from our home in
Maple Bay on Vancouver Island to Salmon Arm and back. We took
ferries to and from the mainland, the bus across the Cokahalla Pass,
and the train back from Kamloops to Vancouver. Otherwise, we rode
our bicycles the whole way, a journey of about 750 km. |

| We
visited a place called White Rock, where Linda found this object.

  |
| Left
-- we crossed the Fraser Valley on Zero Avenue, a road that runs beside
the border along the 49th parallel. Right -- here's Linda riding
along Zero Avenue. She is in British Columbia and the road to the
right is in Washington State. The obelisk is one of the survey
markers showing the border. Notice the trash in the international
ditch.

typical Fraser Valley view, with mountains in the background and this
year's marshmallow crop in the foreground.

| Ranch
country -- a confused Island cyclist, completely stymied by the mystery
of the cattle guard. The nearby cows assured me that it was
impossible to get across.

| Right
-- The lounge in the lodge at Quilchena -- Wyatt Earp just left.
Left -- eager cyclists ready to depart from the elegant Quilchena Lodge.

| Left
-- Linda and the Thompson River seen from the north side. Right
-- the long and no-so-winding road.

|
Hmmm.
Taking a break at a crossing of the Thompson River.
