Relocating the factory deck
If the thought of losing your factory chimes is
horrifying... (or you think I'm full of shit...
read this then!) or
you've been successfully scared by some know-nothing
installer into relocating your factory deck somewhere else
in the car, here's what you need to know.
Scosche, Metra and Bestkits are now making the T-harnesses,
which plug into the factory radio, and it's harness, and
provide wiring for an aftermarket stereo. The general idea
here is to re-locate the factory deck to the trunk, keeping
the chimes. However, you still have to run a +12V switched
wire to turn the deck on and off. And these harnesses are
pricey - I've heard reports of $100 US. I haven't seen
these harnesses myself, as I personally didn't want to keep
