CMYK to FineArt Inkjet

CMYK to Inkjet

In this example lets say we already had a file that has already been separated into CMYK (in Red) and we wanted to print it to an inkjet printer (in Black). Again using Hahnemuhle Photo Rag with Generations 4 pigmented inks as an example. As we can see the CMYK file clearly has a much smaller color gamut than the intended output space. As a result the final print won’t be as vibrant as it could have been because the colors just aren’t there in the source file to begin with! Once an RGB file has been converted to a smaller CMYK color space and saved, it is not possible to go and get those missing colors back.

Again this is another good reason to use a fairly large Working Space like Adobe RGB 1998 for your master RGB file. This master can then be tailored and tweaked for a variety of output conditions.
