TOPTeachingJoanne holds a Bachelor of Education from U of C, and has seven years of experience teaching in public schools. She also earned an A.R.C.T. diploma in flute, and, as a student, played with the Calgary Philharmonic. Later in life she became attracted to the harp, and has been its devoted slave ever since. She has taught harp for many years, adapting her experience to keep her students learning with enthusiasm and enjoyment. She began playing harps in Ottawa, where she lived before moving to Calgary, and where she founded the Ottawa Harp Choir, and encouraged the establishment of harp classes at the local Kiwanis Music Festival. She plays both the celtic and the pedal (concert) harp, but specializes in the repertoire and capabilities of the celtic harp. If you would like to learn the harp, there may be a space in Joanne's schedule, and lonely harps available for rent; call her (403) 210 0158. |

Wedding MusicIf you would like a harp at your wedding, Joanne can supply you with elegant and appropriate music at a reasonable rate. You may have a consultation to hear and choose your music, and you can choose between the sound of the celtic of the classical harp. For outdoor weddings the more easily moved and set up Celtic or lever harp is recommended. Visit Joanne's information about harp music for Weddings. You can also choose from a list of music samples to download. For booking information see Bookings below. |
HarpLinesFrom the
epics of Homer to the poems of the Gaelic bards, poetry has for
thousands of years been accompanied by the ringing strings of a harp of
some form or other.
Harplines is a duo using improvised harp music to accompany the spoken word. Joanne is the harpist and Janet Sisson is the speaker. Janet reads original poetry and the work of other poets, and Joanne devises music to enhance the emotional force of the lines. You can listen to some of their work here:
