TIMBERS DOWN STORM 2-0
The Calgary Storm and Portland Timbers have seen a lot of each other this A-League season. The clubs met tonight for the fifth time this season. Portland pulled out their fourth win of the series as they beat the Storm 2-0 at Foothills Park in Calgary.
The first real chance of the game occurred in the 8th minute, when Calgary had a free kick that went into the penalty area. Portland keeper Josh Saunders did not get to it before Storm defender Liam DeSilva. However, DeSilva put the ball into the side of the net.
The Timbers' first quality opportunity was in the 42nd minute when Brian Winters took a low shot from the left side, but Storm keeper David Wiebenga made the save.
Portland took the lead just after the whistle was blown to start the second half. Scott Benedetti took the corner kick from the left side. The ball hit the far post and bounced out to a waiting McKinley Tennyson, who made no mistake.
Calgary nearly tied the match in the 60th minute when Richard Henry took a shot from the top of the box. Saunders got his fingertips on it, which nudged the ball just beyond the right post. Conrad Chala of the Storm also nearly tied it up in the 67th minute. However, his side bicycle kick off a corner did not reach the back of the goal.
In the 86th minute, DeSilva fouled Portland forward Fadi Afash in the penalty area. Afash took the penalty and made the final score 2-0
