July 1, 2003 -- Toronto Lynx 2 at Calgary Storm 0
LYNX DEFEAT STORM 2-0
For the third year in a row, the Calgary Storm staged a match on Canada Day against a Canadian opponent. While this tradition has seen large crowds and warm weather, Calgary fans did not see a victory as the Toronto Lynx downed the Storm 2-0.
The Lynx jumped right out of the gate and took the lead in the sixth minute when Ali Ngon broke through the Calgary defense and took a great shot from 20 yards out that went past keeper David Wiebenga.
Ngon nearly tallied another in the 12th minute on a free kick, but this time Wiebenga made the save.
In the 18th minute, Toronto went up by two as Nikola Vignjevic took a brilliant free kick from 25 yards out. The shot bent perfectly into the top right corner leaving Wiebenga without a chance.
Calgary had a chance in the 33rd minute when Sean Fraser's shot dribbled through the crease. Nicky Reyes could not get there in time to convert.
The Storm's only other real chance was in the 58th minute when Jordan Gillespie put a corner kick into the box. Liam DeSilva's header was cleared off the line by David DiPlacido.
The Lynx went down to ten men for the final few minutes when substitute Ryan Lucas received a red card in the 86th minute. It did not help the Storm break the deadlock, and the game ended 2-0
