Tahirih / Qurratu'l-'Ayn / Zarrin-Taj / The Pure One / Solace of the Eyes / Crown of Gold

(words to chorus and verses by Mimi McClellan, Brilliant Star magazine, May 1978) (music and bridge by Jim Styan)

Chorus:

Tahirih, heroine of Ta, she gave her life for Baha'u'llah. (Ta = Tehran)

Tahirih, Solace of the Eyes, she's with the Bab in paradise.

~

She gave up fame and fortune, she gave up hearth and home.

She had to tell the people the Promised One had come.

She taught the Faith in Karbila, in Baghdad and Qazvin,

In Kirmanshah and Hamadan, and many towns between.

~

Bridge: Arise, my noble friends, a new Day is here.

Arise, my valiant friends, and cast away your fears.

Arise, my faithful friends, the Scriptures are fulfilled.

Arise, my selfless friends, and put your trust in God's will. (chorus)

2

The magistrates and clergy, they hated what she said.

They punished her and stoned her and laid curses on her head.

There was a conference at Badasht, Tahirih shocked them all.

She took the veil from her face and raised a mighty call.

~

Bridge 2: Arise, my noble friends, with spirit pure and chaste.

Arise, my valiant friends, and gaze upon my face.

Arise, my faithful friends, I am the trumpet blast.

Arise, my selfless friends, the old laws have all passed. (chorus)

3

And finally they killed her for what she had to tell.

They put a cord around her neck and threw her in a well.

They may have killed her body, and for that the world cries!

But Tahirih lives forever in the hearts of all Baha'is! (bridge) (chorus)
