Standing in falsehood or lies is the opposite of standing in the Truth. There can be no partial truth. Truth is relativized by the absolute Truth (II, 492). Dooyeweerd says that the idea of autonomy is the primary lie, the proton pseudos. This “radical lie” is our fallen belief in the autonomy of absolutized theoretical thought (NC II, 561-563). This absolutization of the temporal. is the source of the many –isms of thought, such as psychologism, historicism, etc. (NC, I, 46). Felix Krueger (1874-1948), one of the philosophers of totality, refers to the proton pseudos as exchanging totality with the mere universal, as in speculative rationalism. ("Das Problem der Ganzheit,"1930 Breslau lectures, Ganzheit und Form: Vorträge, gehalten auf der Tagung der Deutschen Philosophischen Gesellschaft, ed. Felix Krüger (Berlin: Junker und Dünnhaupt, 1932). Dooyeweerd owned a copy of this book. Baader says that the denial of our true Center results in an absolutization of the temporal [Vergötterung oder Verewigung der Schein-Zeit] (Zeit 23). The negation of God always results in idolatry or the absolutization of the temporal (Werke I, 21). This is what the Bible refers to as the denying “Spirit of Lies,” and the “Murderer in the Beginning.” It is the original lie of Lucifer, the proton pseudos (Zeit, 25, 41 ft. 21). Revised Jan 7/05 |
