We descend from the religious to the temporal dimensions of reality. First we descend to the level of cosmic time. Then we descend to the modal horizon. Then we descend to individuality structures. The descent can be contrasted with an ascent in the opposite direction. Dooyeweerd does not have a view of reality as a "chain of being," or an "analogy of being." But he does have apriori levels of conditions for reality. Baader speaks of this descent as a kenosis. We make the movement from enstasis to ec-stasis, to the lower levels of reality, in an act of love. Baader also says that each descent is a disintegration; each ascent is a reintegration (Werke 9, 208). Revised Dec. 27/04 |
