Due to overwhelming demand, another run of printed circuit boards for the HamHUD II are being produced. These boards are not being made for retail sale, but rather as a courtesy to those who wish to build their own HamHUD II.

The deadline for taking part in the bulk purchase has now passed!

A list of parts required for the HamHUD can be found here, and assembly instructions can be found here. The new board and schematic have a slightly different part numbering scheme than the original board.

The HamHUD II is not a commercial product that can be purchased, but rather a homebrew project that has information on construction and firmware available for download from the web at http://www.hamhud.net.

A professionally made printed circuit board makes any project not only look much better, but it also makes it much easier to build rather than breadboarding, and or wire wrapping. However, PCBs cost quite a bit in single quantities. With enough people pooling resources, a group purchase of PCBs can bring the cost down to a very reasonable level.

A group purchase of PCBs is being organized for those interested in building a HamHUD II project. Other items are also being included in the group purchase that are difficult to obtain, expensive in single lots, or require programming.

FRAM chips are not available in single quantities, and are being offered to interested individuals.

The Crystalfontz white on blue LCD display unit has been chosen by the majority as the LCD of choice. Bulk purchasing has reduced the cost from $31.21 to $18.94 per unit.

The Microchip 16F876 PIC microcontroller requires firmware loaded into it before you can use it. A huge thanks to Byon Garrabrant (of Tiny Track fame, among other great toys) for offering his services, and programming all of the PICs that will be going out with the kits. Once the chips have been programmed, they can have new firmware updates uploaded via a serial loader program.

A spreadsheet of all those who have expressed an interest in pooling together to bulk purchase parts can be found here. This is a limited time offer, March 20 2003 is the cut off to get your funds in.

If you send a cheque, send early so it'll have time to clear.  Dale will not place any orders until he has sufficient funds to make a purchase.

Dale can not accept PayPal payments made by Credit Card.

You need to transfer money into your PayPal account from your Bank Account, and then move it to Dale's PayPal account. PayPal charges 3% on every transaction on a Premier account that can accept Credit Card payments. Rather than make everyone give 3% to PayPal, Dale has opted to keep his account personal.

This should not cause any difficulties for anyone with a US Bank Account. If you are not able to get money into your PayPal account easily, and would like to use a Credit Card, special arrangements can be made. Please contact James Ewen jewen@shaw.ca for instructions.
