Here's an MP3 of the Winnipeg Sun's "Five Minute Major" program, on NHL free agency (July 3, 2008). A portion of the audio file is presented here as well as printed in the Winnipeg Sun:

WYMAN: What a Canada Day it was for a lot of NHL free agents. There was tons of money being thrown around after the salary cap went up. Marian Hossa has signed with none other than the Detroit Red Wings, so the rich get richer.

FRIESEN: I'm just shocked at the money that's being thrown out there. I'm surprised that the salary cap keeps going up. Where is this money coming from? I'm shocked that players you've never heard of -- Jeff Finger? -- got $3-4 million a year?

PENTON: Put it into perspective. Teams throwing this money around are desperate to get out of these funks.

BENDER: The salary cap keeps going up. How is that going to affect any possibility of Winnipeg getting an NHL franchise in the future?

WYMAN: As long as revenues keep going up, the salary cap goes up. So, if it's possible for teams to make revenue and with revenue sharing and the Canadian dollar at par with the U.S. I don't see why it should have such a huge effect.

FRIESEN: I still think two or three teams down south will have to collapse and maybe the salary cap going up will force some teams to fold. But I wonder if it will price itself out of the Winnipeg market as that happens.

WYMAN: Teams like Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa are all in the free agent market as well. Even though they are not the big-market teams with big money, they're in the free agent game and are making money. So, I don't think the NHL would be afraid to look at Winnipeg as a place where they could make money as well.

Here's an 11" x 17" poster I put in my front window (Adobe PDF, 405KB):

On May 23rd, 2007, news broke of the imminent sale of the Nashville Predators to a Canadian, Jim Balsillie (co-CEO of Research In Motion, based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario). Thursday morning (May 24th), CJOB's Richard Cloutier interviewed John Glennon from "The Tennesean" as well as True North and the Manitoba Moose's own Mark Chipman regarding the sale and the continuing efforts to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg. Listen to the clip here... (MP3 format, 10.1MB, 12:38 in length)

On March 31 and April 1, 2007 the Winnipeg Free Press' Randy Turner published a two-part article concerning the Winnipeg Jets. I don't have a scanner large enough to scan entire newsprint-sized pages, so I took pictures with my digital camera and stitched the pieces together. The result is certainly far from perfect, but the articles are readable in their entirety. The images are rather large, so be patient:
Part one, "The Day the Jets Died"
Part two, "Big-League Dreams, Small-Town Fears"

On January 23, 2007, Mr. David Asper was a guest on The Fan 590 Sports Radio. Here is an MP3 of his comments regarding bringing the NHL back to Winnipeg, and here is an MP3 of his comments regarding his proposed Bomber stadium.

my NHL includes the Winnipeg Jets

The NHL was back in Winnipeg for one night (September 17, 2006) for an pre-season exhibition game between the Phoenix Coyotes (formerly the Winnipeg Jets) and the Edmonton Oilers (the Winnipeg Jets' arch rivals). Here are a few select pictures and videos from the evening.
