"....James Steele Cosgrave deposed that he was a settler residing off Hepburn-street. He knew the deceased. On or about the 20th of June last, at her own request, he went to the house to look at a bad leg she was suffering from. He found three ulcers on the right leg, near the ancle. She mentioned that she had not received any benefit from the treatment of two medical men, and he undertook the treatment of the case, as detailed by the first witness, John Wright, prescribing medicine and ointment, and charging fees for advice and attendence. Witness stated he was possessed of a diploma in midwifery and diseases of women and children, which he obtained from the Belfast medical faculty. He had not brought it with him, bud had it at home. He was not registered as a medical practitioner for New Zealand. - The jury returned a verdict of "Death from the visitation of God"."
