ANIMAL BOOKS ;
INSECT IDENTIFICATION
A Field Guide To The Insects, Borer and White, one of the Peterson Field Guides, the most useful insect identification guidebook.
National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders, is also a useful book. It contains many excellent photos which complement a very well organized and informative text. The poor quality of the image reproduction in this book is unfortunate.
Simon & Shusters Guide To The Insects, excellent images, nicely reproduced, accompany short descriptions of the subject in this oddly organized book.
Spiders And Their Kin, Levi, Levi, and Zim, A Golden Nature Guide, this is the best book on the subject I have seen, inexpensive, broad in scope, it combines general information with scientific terms and names in a fashion that make the information readily accessible. The only criticism is that some of the scientific names are outdated. I highly recommend it for young and old alike.
Western Reptiles and Amphibians, Robert C. Stebbins, another excellent Peterson Field Guide. It is complemented by Eastern Reptiles and Amphibians, eastern & central north america, Roger Conant, Joseph T. Collins, and Isabelle Hunt Conant.
PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS ;
To get good results with a camera requires an understanding of basic photography and of your camera. There are many excellent titles to choose from, do not overlook the owners manual that came with your camera. With a basic understanding of photography you are ready for the titles below. One of the two following titles should be the first piece of close-up equipment you invest in.
John Shaws' Close-ups In Nature, John Shaw, This is the best book on the subject in my opinion, Mr Shaw's' state of the art images beautifully complement his clear and comprehensive text.
How To Photograph Insects And Spiders, West and Ridil, Mr. West's beautiful images combined with clear text make this a useful book.
