I am interested in the transitions of architecture and how we exist between space and dimension. What are the gaps? What are the overlaps?
At a more pragmatic level I am interested in building. How is this accomplished? Where can I save money by making the building more efficient, so I can spend money making it more beautiful.

Bill Allen Scholarship in Architecture, 2008
Family and friends of Bill Allen have established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba in his honour. This fund has been established with two objectives in mind: (1)to provide students of Architecture at the University of Manitoba with the freedom to explore architecture or architectiral practice anywhere in the world; and (2) to provide recognition and support to exceptional graduate students in the Department of Architecture at the University of Manitoba who are conducting research into areas of lighting, acoustics, or the causes of building defects and what can be done to avoid such defects. With this grant I travelled to Denmark, Norway and Sweden to explore Nordic Light and how it is used in architecture and the natural environment.

Richard Kelly Grant, 2006
The New York Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society established The Richard Kelly Grant in 1980. The award is granted to the person(s) who preserve and carry forth Richard Kelly’s ideals, enthusiasm and reverence for light. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage creative thought and activity in the use of light. (http://www.iesny.org/RichardKelly.aspx)This studio project looks at how we see architecture. It's an exploration for a studio and home for a visually impaired artist. How do you see architecture when you can't see? I travelled to New York to present my project at the Center for Architecture and receive my cheque.
Research
I'm interested in lighting design and its application in architecture - both through natural and artificial means. As a way to develop my skills I created a reading course in my last year of study that closely follows the format of the NCQLP exam. To get the widest breadth of information I looked at five building types and analyzed them according to specific criteria.
