Healing Page

A client came to visit me for healing after being diagnosed with of an inoperable brain tumour. The young lady was pregnant at the time and was very distraught about her future and that of her yet unborn child. After a short period of treatments the tumour completely disappeared. The lady is now a very happy mother of two children. A few weeks after this young lady received the wonderful news of her miraculous recovery, her father, a well-known American artist, presented me with an original painting as his way of expressing his gratitude.

FAQ about Healing
How is healing given?
Healing is given in two general ways.
1 -The laying-on of hands, with the healer's hands near to or lightly touching the body of the healee. This is a generic, descriptive term.
2 - As mental intent, meditation, or prayer, sometimes sent from a distance (as distant, or absent healing).

How long does it take for healing to have an effect?

Healing usually brings about slow, gradual improvements over a period of days and weeks. With conditions that have been present a long time, it may take months until maximal benefits are achieved. While occasional instantaneous, "miraculous" cures have been reported, these are relatively rare.

Is healing safe?

There are no known directly harmful effects of healing.
Healing occasionally will bring about releases of emotions that were buried in the unconscious mind, usually related to symptoms that brought a person for treatment. Healing may sometimes intensify pain or other symptoms that are being treated. These are viewed as positive signs, indicating releases of blocked biological energies.
Healing may provide relief from symptoms or may bring about gradual improvement in many conditions. It is often used as a complement to other conventional and complementary therapies. You must ask your medical doctor whether spiritual healing could be used for your condition instead of conventional treatments. Do not stop conventional treatments without consulting your physician.

Who is qualified to be a healer?

Healing is more a gift and an art than a trade or a science. There are gifted natural healers who have very strong healing gifts and need no training. There are healers who have extensive training and years of experience but may not be particularly potent or good healers.
Varying with the healing tradition, school and teacher, healers may qualify in training after a weekend course or may study for four or more years.
Healing is not a licensed profession. Many of the healing schools and organizations have recommended Codes of Conduct and Standards for Practice. Adherence to these is a matter of individual responsibility.
While it is definitely worth while asking whether a healer is a member in good standing in a healing organization, this is no guarantee that you will benefit from her or his treatments.
Many people have healing gifts without even being aware of it. Many professional caregivers may find that their hands become warm when they are tending their patients, or their patients may notice this. A mother kissing away the hurt of a child may be a healer. Many people discover their healing gifts when they place a hand compassionately on someone in need of comforting and are told that this helped dramatically, such as in distinctly alleviating pain.

Where can I find a healer?
The best route is through recommendations from trusted friends and caregivers. Failing in finding successful leads by this route, you may obtain referrals through the various healing organizations, health magazines or vitamin shops..

How do I choose a good healer?
As mentioned above, healing is far more a gift and an art than a trade or a science. The delicate, clearly palpable but almost indefinable interpersonal vibrational chemistry that exists between any two people is particularly relevant to healing interactions. Finding a healer with whom you will resonate positively is a lot like finding a good friend, a psychotherapist, or a physician with good bedside manner.
Recommendations from satisfied healees, especially if you know and trust them, are your best leads. Referrals from trusted caregivers are your next best lead. Even with the warmest of recommendations, however, there is no guarantee that you will get along with anyone just because someone else found them positive. So be patient, and be ready to do some preliminary explorations and telephone interviews before you go for treatment.
My personal belief is that many symptoms and illnesses develop out of tensions and disharmonies - either within us or between ourselves and our environment (relationships and living/work situations). I believe a good healer is often also a good counsellor, or at least has a good bedside manner.

Cautions:
Beware of those who promise or guarantee result. Healing is totally unpredictable in its results. All a healer can promise is to spend some time with you, doing whatever healing she or he knows how to do. Beware of healers who pressure you and warn that unless you come back for their specific treatments your condition will deteriorate or that you'll die. No healer can predict such things with certainty. Healers may sense whether their treatments are likely to be of help, but an ethical healer will present an educated opinions and leave it to you to decide, just as a wise physician will do.
Beware of those who charge high fees. Most healers work for modest fees ($75-125, depending on training, experience and geographic location.

Can anyone learn to heal?
Spiritual healing is a gift, like playing the piano. For a very gifted few it develops spontaneously and is effortless. Many can significantly improve their modest gifts through meditation, instruction and practice. Others may never get very far, despite their best intentions and efforts.
If you are motivated to learn, that is an important first step.
Responsible healers (and other caregivers) work on themselves to clear their personal emotional and spiritual dross. As a healer, you are the instrument through which the healing is facilitated. If you have emotional scars from old hurts, these may distort the processes of healing. For instance, if you have unresolved grief lurking in the closet of your unconscious mind, you may not be able to tolerate letting healees express and release their unresolved grief. Without any conscious awareness, you might discourage them from expressing their hurts - to avoid stirring your own. Ethical healers, like ethical counsellors and psychotherapist, should seek supervision so that they do not let their own blind spots and quirks interfere in their treatment of others.

How can spiritual healing possibly produce any effects?
This is a question that as yet has no definitive answers within conventional Western science.

Theories to explain healing:
There are no conventional scientific theories that explain spiritual healing.
Here are a few of the theories proposed within the spectrum of complementary/ alternative medicine (CAM), or bioenergy medicine:
1 - Biological energies of healers interact with those of healees to bring about changes
2 - The intentions/ wishes/ meditations/ prayers of healers can influence healees' bioenergy fields
3 - The intentions/ wishes/ meditations/ prayers of healers can influence healees' consciousness, bringing about changes that then influence healees' problems
4 - Discarnate intelligences (spirits, angels, Christ, saints or others in spiritual dimensions bring about healings
5 - Divine intervention produces healings

Is there evidence that healing is effective?
Surveys of healees across several countries show a satisfaction rate of 73-91 percent.
Out of 191 randomized controlled studies of healing, 124 show significant effects. These included studies of humans, animals, plants, bacteria, yeasts, cells in laboratory cultures, enzymes, DNA and more.

Can healing be cost effective?
Anecdotal reports: Healer and grateful healees report that with healing produces improvements in many illnesses, reducing pain and other symptoms, shortening the courses of many illnesses.
A spiritual healer working in the office of a general practice physician in England reduced the medication costs of 25 patients by 1,000 pounds Sterling over six months.

Do I have to have faith to be healed?
There is no research evidence to suggest that faith is required for healing. Animals, plants, and many other organisms have responded to healing.
If you believe that faith is an essential part of your personal healing, it may be important for you to explore this belief and come to peace with yourself about it.
