2002 by Francois Xg d'Evildoer |
The year was 2002. The new dark ages were upon us. Crowds fled in panic as the earth quaked and swallowed large cities. The moon spiraled close - too close - and tidal forces sheered the earth's crust. In Nebraska, a good-ole-boy named Francois railed and raged against it all in his barn-sized bomb shelter, emerging only to fly his spaceship on quick trips to the pizza parlor, and to save his county from nuclear annihilation. In Saskatoon, a man sat down with incoherent plans, a list of strange chapter titles, and a few character names, and poured his blood and sweat into a novel unlike any ever written. Yes, it was that bad. (But fun!!!!) And thus, a hobby was born. Every November, regular as clockwork, the man produced a new novel for National Novel Writing Month. Clearly, something was wrong in his head. How else to explain the hours and days and two-litre bottles of soft-drinks poured into his craft? The late nights and lost sleep? The isolation? And yet, improbably, he survived, flourished, crafted - with bleary eyes and straining wrists - complete first drafts in only a single month. He emerged at the end of November 2003 with his first actual planned & outlined novel - Eleven Nine. Suppose you could rewind your life, knowing what you know now? He crawled out of the depths on November 30, 2004 clutching the bleak, disturbing Genocide Season. In Europe in 2089, the Genocide Regime faces upheaval from within. Animals claw back from the verge of extinction, and Faceless Warriors challenge the established order. He returned to the real world a few minutes before December 1, 2005, fighting off sleep for the final 36 hours, with his newest novel, Something Happy (and a whole lotta typos). Imagine you possessed a billion-dollar-winning lottery ticket... November 2006 arrived. A new novel formed from his sleep-deprived brain: b1ng3age, first draft completed. Pope Abe, Inc. are running a popular contest. The prize - a pill that changes reality, offering the winner a chance to make the world a better place. Fresh out of business school and working for a private bank, Seaver Tran is tasked with auditing the company . What is Pope Abe, Inc. really up to, and what are they trying to hide? Writing is underway for 2007's novel, Blood of Crystal. Twenty billion years in the future, as the next big bang nears, a man on a decaying desert planet at the edge of the universe can't forget the one true love of his life, a woman he accompanied across the universe centuries earlier - both sculpted into primeval human form - on a pilgrimage to the original Earth, a burnt husk on the brink of being sheared apart by a passing rogue star.
