The year was 2002.
The new dark ages were upon us. Crowds fled in panic as the earth quaked and swallowed large cities. The moon spiraled close - too close - and tidal forces sheered the earth's crust. In Nebraska, a good-ole-boy named Francois railed and raged against it all in his barn-sized bomb shelter, emerging only to fly his spaceship on quick trips to the pizza parlor, and to save his county from nuclear annihilation.
In Saskatoon, a man sat down with incoherent plans, a list of strange chapter titles, and a few character names, and poured his blood and sweat into a novel unlike any ever written. Yes, it was that bad. (But fun!!!!)
And thus, a hobby was born. Every November, regular as clockwork, the man produced a new novel for National Novel Writing Month. Clearly, something was wrong in his head. How else to explain the hours and days and two-litre bottles of soft-drinks poured into his craft? The late nights and lost sleep? The isolation? And yet, improbably, he survived, flourished, crafted - with bleary eyes and straining wrists - complete first drafts in only a single month.
He emerged at the end of November 2003 with his first actual planned & outlined novel - Eleven Nine.

He crawled out of the depths on November 30, 2004 clutching the bleak, disturbing Genocide Season.
