Island Bel Canto Singers - Nanaimo, BC

The Island Bel Canto Singers (IBC Singers) came together in 1997 as a community choir, and celebrated their 10th Anniversary in May 2007. The women who comprise the choir love to laugh, enjoy each other’s company, and above all, love to sing!   

In 2004, Lionel and his wife Anne  moved to Nanaimo from Ottawa where he was Director of Music at  Ashbury College for 20 years. He holds a B.Mus. degree from the University of London, England and an M.A. from McMaster University. His extensive conducting experience includes small a cappella groups and large school choirs, concert and jazz bands, chamber ensembles and community choirs. His music interests are eclectic ranging from classical to jazz, folk to Broadway. In addition to the Bel Canto Singers Lionel also directs the newly-formed Probus Singers and sings in the Island Consort. His other interests include tennis, hiking, kayaking and gardening.

Sharon Sinclair, our accompanist, is a multi-talented musician and educator.  She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano from the University of Victoria and is also an accomplished solo singer.  Sharon is a music specialist and choral conductor with the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District on a part time basis.  She teaches piano and voice privately, and is also a long standing member of the A Cappella Plus chamber choir.
