Louise Campbell talked about the Canadian Picture Awards in Toronto in November.
Stewart Frasier from Empire was Pioneer of the Year and that the west didn’t
have any representation last year but that this year Darlene Ullman is the
recipient of the Silver Spotlight Award due to the service to the Alberta
Picture Pioneer for the last 10 years.
In
May Louise went to the CPP at Show Canada in Ottawa. One of the discussions was
the subject of the movie pass for retired Pioneers. They must be retired, over
the age of 60, 10 consecutive years of paid pioneer membership, final stages of
developing policies. Another subject at the meeting was the Trust Fund which
helps members in need. At present there is no one in Western Canada utilizing
this fund. If anyone knows anyone who might require this fund please get in
touch with Neil Campbell who is the Alberta liaison for the Trust Fund. Any one
that is physically handicapped or mentally ill.
This year we lost Lloyd Fedor. He worked for several independent distribution
companies and ended his career with Theatre Agencies representing Disney
product. Also Jack Craig, the owner of the Older theatre is very ill. He has had
several strokes and complications. Darlene added that we donated $100 to the
Canadian Diabetics for Lloyd Fedor and we sent flowers to Jack Craig.
Louise made a motion that the pioneers pay for Darlene’s expenses in Toronto in
November when she accepts the Pioneers Award. Joanne Quigley seconded.
