Since its formation in 1940 as an organization dedicated to the welfare of all members of the motion picture industry in Canada, the Canadian Picture Pioneers has grown to its present-day strength of more than 1,000 members in branches across Canada.

Founded by a group of 19 prominent members of the motion picture industry, meeting for the first time in January 1940 in a bar in Toronto's King Edward Hotel, the Pioneers organization, from its earliest days, has attracted members from all levels of our industry.

The attraction has been two-fold. Firstly, the fun and fellowship shared by members of the same industry from president to shipping clerk. Secondly, the Trust Fund, maintained by the Pioneers, contributes a great deal to the well being of those in need, and with this involvement being the primary function, there comes a sense of comradeship.

Over the years, many people have played an active and important role in the Canadian Picture Pioneers, both as executives on the various boards and as recipients of many honours including "Pioneer of the Year."

As a Pioneer, you can contribute in many ways, especially through the Fellowship Committee. This group keeps in touch with fellow members to let everyone know what's happening within our organization.

Original membership requirements called for 25 years of service in the industry.  This period of service has recently been reduced to all current employees regardless of years of service.

Anyone who qualifies for membership, be they doorman, cashier, caretaker, manager, projectionist or booker – in fact everyone in the business should be proud to join such a vital part of the motion picture industry.

Membership Dues: First Year $50.00 - Subsequent Years $35.00 - Retirees $20.00

Mission Statement

Our three-part mission statement below has formed the cornerstone of our organization since 1940.

To create and promote friendly relations amongst those who have been or are engaged in or connected with the motion picture industry.

To create and promote friendly relations and understanding between the public and those engaged in or connected with the motion picture industry.

To aid those in need who were formerly in and part of the motion picture industry without requiring repayment of any kind from the recipient.
