How
To Prepare Your Quilt For Machine Quilting
-
Do not baste your quilt.
-
Identify the head of the quilt
top as well as the backing.
-
The quilt backing and batt
should be a minimum of 8 inches (20 cm) wider and longer than the
quilt top.
-
Please be sure the top and
backing are straight on all sides, with square corners.
-
Be careful that all seams on
outside edges are properly secured by back tacking, then sewing a
stay stitch ¼ inch all the way around from the raw
edges, or use a serger to finish the outer edges of the quilt top.
-
Please do not add any
embellishments such as charms, buttons, or pins.
-
Check the quilt top
for seam breaks as these can cause tearing when the top is stretched
on the rollers of my quilting machine.
-
Clip any loose
threads on the top and backing to avoid them from showing through.
-
Press seams either
open or to one side.
-
If the backing has a
seam, make sure you have removed the selvage, and sew the seam with
a tiny zigzag stitch.
Thank you.
